Gunfire left a woman dead in Riverside early Saturday, Aug. 1
Callers reported a person had been shot at about 12:11 a.m., and summoned officers and paramedics to the 3800 block of Locust Street, in the downtown neighborhood, Riverside Police Department officials said in a news release. They located a woman suffering from gunshot wounds and attempted to save her life, but she died before she could be taken to a hospital.
Her identity was withheld pending the notification of relatives.
Investigators believe she was shot in the backyard of a residence in that block by a person who fled the area in a vehicle. Officials did not immediately suggest a motive for the killing or release a description of any possible suspect. No arrests were announced as of Sunday.
